Agassi vs. Sampras in Costa Rica PDF Print E-mail

On September 4th Sampras-Agassi tennis exhibition appearance here at Alejandro Morera Soto stadium in Alajuela, the soccer field being partially covered in a temporary artificial surface. In his 15 year career, Pete Sampras won an incredible 15 titles before retirement in 2003. Andre Agassi won the 1996 Olympics title and went on to a pro career of eight Grand Slam championships before retiring in 2006.

A women's doubles match against an unnamed duo will also feature Anna Kournikova and Ashley Harkleroad as a team. The former is more famous for her affair with pop singer Enrique Iglesias and her appearance in several men's magazines including the 2004 Sports Illustrated swimsuit edution than for her tennis. Harkleroad is better known as having posed nude for th August 2008 Playboy magazine edition than for sparkling work on the court.

Gary Carter, owner of the sportfishing boat Silver Rod O, has filed a stiff protest with the Chinchilla government against La Rosa Mistica, a Venezuelan tuna seiner vessel for alleged aggressive tactics including allegedly launching explosive devices that placed the Silver Rod, its passengers and crew in danger.

The U.S.-owned Silver Rod was fishing near a school of spinner dolphins and yellow-fin tuna off the coast of the Nicoya Peninsula when first, the tuna ship's helicopter, then the tuna vessel itself bore down upon the smaller vessel, the complaint said. Carter also reported the incident to the nonprofit Billfish Foundation of which he is a member.

The custom of giving San Jose directions in distance from landmarks instead of street and building numbers has been variously described as charming, confusing and downright stupid, as visitors, taxi drivers and new residents grope their way to their destinations.

But the days of numberless streets and buildings are numbered. Recently, San Jose Mayor Johnny Araya announced the capital is dedicating $1.2 million toward putting up street signs and numbering buildings.
